If you’re short on practice time, Zigaboo’s “Zigabeats” will be up every Friday. He is the originator of New Orleans funky drumming, which also happens to be the title of his course. I highly recommend getting it. It will require some practice but you will learn the history and foundation of New Orleans drumming.
Also, Anthony LoGerfo from Lukas Nelson’s band Promise of the Real will be here with bass player Corey McCormick and percussionist Tato Melgar. They are the back-up band for Neil Young, and just did the majority of the soundtrack for the new movie A Star is Born featuring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, which comes out in October. They will be here to perform, give us a lesson and talk about what it takes for 3 young musicians to play with legends.
A new episode of The Chad Smith Show debuts called, My Story. We shot this episode in his hometown. It includes his mother and brother and is filled with great stories. We also bring you on stage while he’s playing a Chili Peppers concert. You’ll hear a regular mix, plus what we heard standing behind him on a riser with the drums “hot.” You’ll find out what Chad’s first job was in high school. Why he was fired from working at The Gap. We also find out his real name. Is it Chad or Chadwick?
We also have a 5-part roundtable interview honoring Hal Blaine with Charlie Watts and Jim Kelter that I got to host. You will learn more about how to play your drums just from listening to these guys than you would from sitting behind your kit.
We’re featuring New podcasts every Thursday with guaranteed surprises along the way, as we never know who’s going to show up.
It’s going to be a fun and educational month on Drum Channel. Tell your friends and let me know if you have any ideas!
