Don’s Blog 9: Jimmy Branly and JR Robinson

In our continuing series of Pro’s questioning Pro’s, this week Jimmy Branly is asking JR Robinson about the Bolero Groove. This one is easy to play and a great one to add to your vocabulary. For sure check out Friday’s Secrets from the Pros. Terry talks about his experience of learning how to play 5 and 7 together as taught to him by Efrain Toro. Then check out Take 5 in 7. Sounds crazy. It’s the classic take 5 rhythm but you can count it in either 5 or 7. With practice, you start hearing them both. It’s pretty advanced but can really help when you’re improvising in a jazz setting and has been commonly used by many of the greats.

For Christmas I put together 5 of my favorite Roundtables, filled with great stories and invaluable information. Check out our schedule to see the lineup. They include Jim Keltner, Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, Thomas Lang, Jimmy Cobb, the Wackerman family and many more.

I want to thank you for making this a successful year for Drum Channel. We have some very cool surprises coming in 2019.

Thank you for being part of the Drum Channel family!

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
