What To Play… And What Not To Play

Walfredo Reyes Jr. shares his experience and expertise on the subject of playing authentic salsa music on the drum set with and without one or more percussionists. Showing how one player can fill the role of a drummer as well as a percussionist (when needed), Walfredo skillfully explains what to play, and equally important, what not to play when performing music from this popular genre.

The veteran drummer for Chicago, Santana, and many other top artists offers a fresh new approach to playing traditional Cuban rhythms and sounds on the drum set, with and without a percussionist/percussion section. The lessons also feature musical demonstrations with an authentic salsa rhythm section.

*note: The traditional salsa percussion section includes timbales, congas, bongos, cowbell, guiro and maracas. In modern situations these sounds and rhythms are often played on the drum set.
