Peter Magadini's parents took him to a Duke Ellington concert when he was fifteen years old.  Immediately, he was drawn to the drums and decided to get a set of his own. Peter Magadini studied at both the San Francisco Conservatory and the University of Toronto under Don Bothwell, Roy Burns, Roland Kohloff, and Mahapurush Misra. While in San Francisco, Peter Magadini performed with George Duke, Al Jarreau, and John Hear before touring with Diana Ross for one year.

Peter Magadini is a sought-after studio drummer and live performer in both the U.S. and Canada. Peter Magadini has performed with Sonny Sitt, Mose Allison, Chet Baker, and John Handy. Peter Magadini played percussion with The Berkshire Music Festival Orchestra at Tanglewood, The Toronto Symphony, and The Formm Festival of Contemporary Music at Carnegie Hall. Peter has also recorded with his own bands.

Peter Magadini is also an author and an instructor. He wrote several well-known instructional texts, including Musicians Guide to Polyrhythms. Peter Magadini taught at Concordia University, McGill University, the Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific, and the Jazz School in Berkeley. Peter currently teaches at Haight-Ashbury Music in San Francisco Center and at his private studio in Marin County.
