Biography

Michael Barsimanto is a Los Angles based drummer, primarily knows for his work in jazz. Michael Barsimanto helped to found the band, Shapes, and later helped to escalate the band’s success with his suggestion of adding bassist Jimmy Haslip to the lineup.

Former Elvin Jones sideman and jazz saxophone legend Dave Liebman offered Michael Barsimanto his recording start as a drummer. In the company of such a great talent, Michael Barsimanto soon found himself with other exciting musical offers. Michael Barsimanto toured with trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, jazz violinist virtuoso Jean Luc Ponty, vocalists Ivan Neville, Billy Preston, Andy Taylor of Duran Duran, guitar star Steve Vai, former Police guitarist Andy Summers, progressive/classic rockers Jethro Tull, and the film composer and trumpeter Mark Isham, as well as many others.

Michael Barsimanto starred in the 1982 short film “Haircut” as The Drummer. He also worked on the film score for the 2005 film, Hubert Selby Jr.: It’ll Be Better Tomorrow.

Michael Barsimanto has become rather well known as a jazz drummer, though taking a look at his résumé one can see his incredible versatility. Michael Barsimanto's skill and intuitive playing have kept him in-demand as a drummer for well over two decades.

Michael Barsimanto currently plays with the Los Angeles based band, The Imperial Crowns. As front man Jimmy Wood puts it: “We are the Imperial Crowns and we’re pimping the blues.” Barsimanto is also the talented composer and leader of The Groove Congress, a band that plays Los Angeles clubs such as The Baked Potato and Fais Do-Do.
