Jason Bittner, like so many drummers, started banging on pots and pans as a young boy. He then took formal drum lessons when he was ten and throughout high school. During school, he performed with the jazz and orchestra ensembles. After high school graduation, Jason Bittner studied theory, arranging, and Latin and jazz styles at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Jason Bittner left Berklee and played in multiple metal and hard rock bands. Jason Bittner also attended community college and worked with their jazz and percussion groups.

In 1994 Jason Bittner joined one of the dayís biggest hard-core bands in New York, Stigmata. Jason Bittner spent seven years with Stigmata, recorded three albums, and toured the U.S. and Europe. Together the band decided to cease performing and recording. That same year, Jason Bittner joined Shadows Fall. His original plans were to tour Europe with them once, but he eventually decided to become a permanent member.

In fall of 2002, Shadows Fall released their first album featuring Jason Bittner called The War Within. The album was very well-received; Shadows Fall collected a Grammy nomination for best metal performance. The band toured all over the world promoting the album and also performed on Ozzfestís main stage in 2005.

After this success with Shadows Fall, Jason Bittner began teaching clinics internationally and also performed at the Modern Drummer Festival in 2005. Jason Bittner later released a book, Drumming Out of the Shadows, using his experience in the band to instruct aspiring drummers.

Shadows Fall released Fallout From the War in 2006 and toured for a few months promoting it before getting back to write and record their next album, Threads of Life, which they released domestically and internationally.

In March of 2008, Jason Bittner offered a special drum clinic in Holland and in the following months he planned to offer lessons in upstate New York. Jason Bittner planned to record an instructional DVD during the summer of 2008. Jason Bittner's side project Burning Human expected to release their album in the summer of 2008. Jason Bittner regularly writes for Burning Human during breaks from his other endeavors.

  • Jason won the Modern Drummer magazine readerís poll for Up & Coming Drummer in 2004. In 2005, he was awarded Best Recorded Performance and #1 Metal Drummer in the same poll and in 2006 he was again voted #1 Metal Drummer.

  • "Making music to me means enjoying myself and enjoying the people Iím making music [for] and making a piece [of music] that might last in history for some time for our genre of music that kids might look up to in the future. If I can record a drum part that will be talked about for years to come like [Dave] Lombardo did with 'Angel of Death' and Neil Pert did with 'Tom Sawyer' or something like that, then thatís the ultimate compliment."
