Basic Background Info
Adam Carson’s parents would take their two children to the only record store in Ukiah, California, every week or so and let them purchase a record. They considered it very important for their children to be educated in music and art. Adam Carson recalls having a small collection of music by the time he was four. After one of these trips, around the age of nine, Adam Carson came home with a Def Leppard album and a poster of them performing. It was then that he thought that “being in a rock band must be the best thing ever.”
In seventh grade, Adam Carson received his first drum kit. Adam Carson's father had been a drummer and fully encouraged his son’s playing. Like most budding drummers, Adam Carson began acting out his rhythmic fascinations on kitchen cookware. Adam Carson had taken band in school and played the drums. Adam Carson seemed on track to become an avid young drummer, but then he inexplicably stopped playing for about a year.
While still in high school in the early 90s, Adam Carson joined up with friend Mark Stopholese, Vic Chalker, and Davey Havok to form the band A Fire Inside (or AFI). At that point, none of the members knew how to play their instruments, but they eventually did learn. They recorded the Dork EP in 1991 (with Geoff Kresge replacing Chalker on bass.) Although AFI split briefly while attending separate colleges, the band has released many albums and gained significant mainstream success.
Aside from Adam Carson's time with AFI, he has also played with psychobilly band Tiger Army. Adam Carson has recorded several albums with Tiger Army, but he remains firmly committed to playing with AFI.
